Vacation: Day 5

We tried to split up the days that we had to drive aways and today was one of those days. We went to Tillamook, a 2 hour drive from where we are, to go to the cheese factory and air musuem. The kids were all really good in the car and slept most of the way there. They have all been staying up late so it seems anytime in the car, even for short trips, we have at least one who falls asleep.

We started off at the Tillamook cheese factory. It was nothing like the one we had in Nampa. Everything is automated now and they don't even show open containers of how the cheese is made. They do have a tasting line and really good gift shop where you can get squeaky cheese, which I miss. Overall Chris and I were disappointed. It is definitely a tourist place. There was another cheese factory down the street that I wish we would have gone to instead. It had a petting zoo and looked like it was in an old barn. But oh well!! Maybe some other time.

We then went to the air museum. Chris was in heaven. We found out it is ran out of a WWII blimp hangar that they built right after Pearl Harbor. It houses about 30 planes, some of which people still fly today. There are engines, props, blimps, helicopters and memorabilia from that time. It was really interesting to learn about the planes and ammunition they carried. The kids seemed to have the most fun sitting in cockpits and eating popcorn.

Since it is a long drive we decided to stop in town for some pizza. The kids all got their own junior size and each of them could only eat 1 slice. It was very good and filling. We are having leftovers for lunch tomorrow.

We then decided to take the scenic route home and saw some amazing and beautiful sights. The kids were so hyper, probably from the sodas, they took tons of pictures in the back of the car. It was funny to listen to them just laughing at the stupidest things. The sugar rush only lasted about 40 minutes and then they all slept the rest of the way home.

We took it easy and relaxed for the rest of the night around the campfire. With only 1 more full day here we are trying to enjoy the beach as much as possible.
