We have always struggled with Autumn and school. She couldn't seem to understand certain things or remember anything that was taught to her. We have had her tested on multiple levels and have found that she needs a smaller, one on one environment. She really struggles with math and science, but is quite advanced in spelling and reading (this from a girl the doctors told me would probably never read!) She has high functioning autism but can't be labeled that because of her hydrocephalus. So we struggle socially (she made her first friend this year) and think everyone is our friend even when they are not nice to her.
Autumn made it into Crossroads Middle School! We are all so excited for her. It is a very small school, 150 kids made up of 7th and 8th graders. They have 4 classes a day and there is a lot of one on one time. Autumn has been struggling in a mainstream school and we were at the point of not knowing how to help her. She will also be automatically eligible for and Academy High School, which tailors to specific occupations.
She is excited that this will be "her" school. We are hoping that she learns to love school and will become more involved.
Cross our fingers that she can do it without Audrey. We have had a hard time separating them because Audrey is always there to help her when needed. Autumn says she will be fine....I am nervous, but excited. I hope Autumn becomes a very independent, smart young lady and learns lots from this experience.
