Today we decide to head to Newport and go to Mariner Square. We started the day off at Ripley's Believe it or Not. The kids all loved looking at the crazy characters and Ember mentioned a couple of times that is was kinda creepy. We then headed over to the wax museum and the kids loved looking at all their favorite people (or trying to figure out who they were).We had a little while to spare until our next fun place so we went to a candy and snack shop. We got a quick bite to eat and a pound of fresh taffy in the kids favorite flavors.
We then checked on the dogs (they got to wait in the car for most of the day) and gave them a doggie treat that we bought at the taffy shop.
Then it was time to head to the Undersea Gardens. We were amazed at some of the fish and creatures in there. Giant eels, sturgeon, crabs, and many fish. At 2pm there was a show where a diver goes in feeds and shows off the sea life. It was definitely worth our wait and the kids enjoyed touching some starfish and anemones.
As we had been going to all these places, the kids would see things in the gift shops that they all wanted. We finally told them they get 2 souvenirs the whole trip and they had to think hard about what they really wanted. They all found something at the Undersea Gardens but we asked them to wait until we went to another shop in the area. We took them over to a place the kids have name "The Hippie Place". It had incense, lots of tie dye, and really cool posters and crystals. Keisha found some bracelets and Jalen found a crystal ball. I fell in love with a lot of the clothes but decided not to buy anything. We then went back to the gardens for the other kids to get something. Ember got a glass dolphin (I saw it the first time and fell in love with it), Autumn and Audrey both got bottles that have sand and shells in them.
After lots of walking we drove up to Depoe Bay for dinner. We decided to stop first and let the dogs run for a bit. We ended up at this lookout with a grassy area. It was cold and the wind was trying to blow us all over. But the view was spectacular and the dogs got to chase a couple of birds.
We had dinner at Gracie's Sea hag, because we were told they had a really good seafood buffet. We got there 45 minutes too early for it but had a couple of beers and appetizers while we waited. Oysters, two different ways, clams, salmon, cod, shrimp, halibut, clam chowder, cheese biscuits and salad all made this buffet seem really fancy. It was all so good Chris ate too much and was miserable for the next couple of hours.
We drove back to the house and decided to go to the beach for a bit. The wind had picked up so much it was blowing sand everywhere. The kids didn't care and were ready to play. We walked and played in the surf for a long time. The dogs were also ready to let out energy and were making all of us laugh hysterically while the chased after birds. I finally got cold and brought some of the kids back. Chris stayed out with the others for a little longer.
All the kids got in the hot tub again (well not Keisha, she was ready for some time to herself) and are just now getting in the house and settling for the night.
The sunset was beautiful, we have had a sunny and somewhat warm day. Dogs and kids sure will sleep good tonight and I am ready for a quiet hot tub soak.
Tomorrow is suppose to be sunny and 70 so our plan it to stay here all day flying kites and playing on the beach.
